Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

I have an odd relationship with mirrors. I love a gorgeous, gilt-edged, aged mirror (can anyone say Versailles?) ... but I hate the mirrored closet doors I'm stuck with, courtesy of the original builder of my home. (I especially loathe them at 6 AM when I face myself half-asleep rising to greet the day rather grumpily.) I mean, was the architect self-involved or what? No one needs that many mirrored doors ... Anyway, since I can ill afford a grand, monarch-inspired "looking glass" even on a small scale, I am forever searching for smaller renditions with a bit of panache. A mirror has to do more than reflect my mug; it has to add light and a bit of glam to the space. For the master bedroom, I've been seeking a spun silver-edged mirror more chic than shabby. These, I found inspiring (above), with just enough personality without being too overdone. Then I found the Bellesol mirror at Ballard Designs, my go-to decor spot.  Three are now hanging in a row in the master bedroom. Versailles, it ain't. But I still feel like a princess.
